Defining moments and milestones
Beginning his conducting studies at Curtis Institute under the tutelage of Yannick Nézet-Séguin, one of North America's most prominent conductors, Watanabe progressed through rigorous apprenticeship at The Philadelphia Orchestra, where he gained formative experience in both symphonic and operatic contexts. His 2022 Metropolitan Opera debut conducting Kevin Puts' contemporary opera *The Hours* announced his arrival as a serious operatic conductor, while his Solti Foundation Career Assistance Award recognition underscores his trajectory as an emerging leader in American conducting.
