Marianela Nuñez is an Argentine-British Principal Dancer with The Royal Ballet whose commanding presence and technical brilliance have made her one of the most celebrated classical ballerinas of her generation.
Defining moments and milestones
Discovered at fourteen by principal dancer Maximiliano Guerra while training at Teatro Colón Ballet School in Buenos Aires, Nuñez was invited to join the company as a young soloist before pursuing advanced training at The Royal Ballet School in London. Her exceptional promise earned her a guaranteed contract with The Royal Ballet in 1998, where she has spent more than two decades ascending to Principal Dancer and becoming one of the company's most celebrated interpreters of both classical and contemporary repertoire. Recognized internationally for her commanding technique, emotional intelligence, and versatility across the full spectrum of ballet—from the great Romantic roles to cutting-edge contemporary work—she has established herself as a defining artist of her generation and was appointed OBE in 2025 for her services to dance.
Appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to dance in His Majesty The King's New Year's Honours, 2025; won the Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance in 2013
