The Beirut International Opera Festival and Competition is not a rebranding exercise. It is a deliberate act of cultural positioning from a city that has spent the last several years rebuilding from a port explosion that killed over 200 people and devastated its cultural infrastructure. The name invoking Bayreuth is either audacious or exactly right. Probably both.
