Emerging from Barcelona's experimental theatre scene in the late 1970s as a founding member of La Fura dels Baus, Àlex Ollé evolved from avant-garde provocateur to one of Europe's most commanding opera directors, his work distinguished by architectural ambition, kinetic precision, and an unflinching modernist sensibility. His breakthrough into the operatic mainstream came with *L'Atlàntida* (1996), and he has since directed landmark productions at La Scala, Salzburg, and Sydney Opera House, earning major international awards while maintaining his role as artistic director of La Fura dels Baus. Today, he stands as a bridge between experimental theatre and institutional opera, a director whose productions consistently challenge audiences to see canonical works anew.
Co-directed the opening ceremony of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, 'Mediterrani, mar olímpic' (1992)
