
Countertenor
Anthony Roth Costanzo is an American countertenor and opera director. He began his career in musical theater at the age of 11. Costanzo is a graduate of Princeton University and of the Manhattan School of Music. In 2012, he won first place at the Operalia competition. In 2009, he was a Grand Finals Winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. He has been an actor in film and a producer and curator. He is the designated general director and president of Opera Philadelphia, where he has instituted a flexible ticket pricing policy.

Signature Roles
Beginning as a child performer on Broadway, Costanzo transitioned to opera in his teens, singing Miles in *The Turn of the Screw* and appearing alongside Luciano Pavarotti before making his Metropolitan Opera debut as Unulfo in Handel's *Rodelinda*. His ascent accelerated through the 2010s, establishing himself as a leading countertenor through roles in contemporary and baroque repertoire, culminating in the 2022 Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording for his performance as Akhnaten. Now serving as General Director and President of Opera Philadelphia, he represents a new generation of operatic leadership committed to innovation, cultural relevance, and artistic vision.
