Tenor (Heldentenor)
Armenian dramatic tenor Arsen Soghomonyan, who transitioned from baritone to forge a commanding presence in the Verdi repertoire, has emerged as one of the most compelling heldentenor voices of his generation.
Defining moments and milestones
Soghomonyan emerged from the Armenian conservatory system as a promising baritone, winning the nation's highest artistic honor in 2006 while still a student. His artistic reinvention as a dramatic tenor beginning in 2017 revealed a voice of heroic proportions ideally suited to the Verdi canon, and he has since become a fixture at major European opera houses. His 2025 Metropolitan Opera debut as Hermann in *The Queen of Spades* under the baton of Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin signals his arrival among the world's most significant dramatic tenors.
