Tenor
Il Trittico as Luigi · Wiener Staatsoper · Jun 30, 2026
Beginning his operatic journey while still an engineering student in Sonora, Chacón-Cruz transformed himself into a disciplined artist through rigorous training in Mexico City and Boston, earning the mentorship of Plácido Domingo in the process. His 2005 victory in the Operalia competition launched him onto the international stage, where his warm, powerful tenor and passionate interpretations of Verdi and Puccini have made him a fixture at leading opera houses across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Now an established artist and respected pedagogue, he continues to refine the Romantic repertoire while nurturing the next generation of singers.
Winner of Plácido Domingo's Operalia competition (Madrid, 2005); recipient of the 2024 Readers' Award at the International Opera Awards
University of Sonora (Bachelor's degree in Voice Performance and Arts); SIVAM foundation workshops at Escuela Superior de Música, Mexico City (full scholarship, later Plácido Domingo scholarship); Boston University Opera Institute (Performance Diploma, full scholarship, 2001–2003)
