Beverly Sills was an American soprano and one of the most celebrated opera singers of the 20th century. She was renowned for her bel canto interpretations and later served as general director of the New York City Opera and chairman of Lincoln Center. Her signature roles included the three queens in Donizetti's Tudor trilogy, Manon, and Cleopatra.
