Brian Macdonald began as a founding dancer with the National Ballet of Canada in 1951, then transitioned to choreography with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in 1958, where he created landmark works including *Rose Latulippe* (1966), the first full-length Canadian ballet. His restless artistry extended across opera and musical theatre, culminating in a 1987 Broadway production of *The Mikado* that earned him two Tony nominations. Over six decades, he created more than eighty works for major international companies while establishing himself as one of Canada's most influential cultural architects.
