Founded in 1952 by Bernhard Paumgartner as an ensemble of Mozarteum faculty and students, Camerata Salzburg evolved into one of the world's preeminent chamber orchestras through its integral partnership with the Salzburg Festival and its cultivation of a distinctive interpretive approach to the Viennese Classical masters. Under successive principal conductors—notably Sándor Végh and Roger Norrington—the ensemble refined its commitment to historical authenticity and crystalline sonority, establishing itself as the definitive voice of Mozart and his contemporaries. Since 2016, operating as a self-directed collective led by concertmasters Ahss and Guzzo, Camerata Salzburg has expanded its international presence while maintaining the artistic coherence that has made it indispensable to the global concert and festival circuit.
Established as the principal chamber orchestra of the Salzburg Festival and Mozart Week since 1956 (1956)
