After training at the Royal Ballet School and dancing professionally with Swiss ballet companies throughout the 1990s, Marston transitioned to choreography, winning the Ursula Moreton Choreographic Competition and creating her first work for the Royal Ballet in 1997. She rose to international prominence as artistic director of Bern Ballett (2007–2013), where she revitalized the company through narrative-driven productions that drew on literature and biography. Since then, she has become one of contemporary ballet's most celebrated choreographers, creating acclaimed works for the Royal Ballet, Northern Ballet, and other major companies, winning the South Bank Sky Arts Award and the UK National Dance Award while establishing herself as a master of emotionally intelligent, dramatically compelling ballet.
