Soprano (dramatic)
From her 1997 professional debut as Iphigénie at Glimmerglass Opera, Christine Goerke ascended through the lyric soprano repertoire before a vocal transformation around 2003 repositioned her as one of the era's most commanding dramatic sopranos. Her interpretations of Wagner's Brünnhilde and Strauss's Elektra and Dyer's Wife have become benchmarks of the repertoire, performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Bayerische Staatsoper, and Edinburgh International Festival. Honored with the Richard Tucker Award, Grammy Awards, and Musical America's Vocalist of the Year, she stands as a defining artist of contemporary opera while nurturing future generations as Associate Artistic Director of Detroit Opera.
