David Rockwell emerged in the 1980s as a designer whose architectural training and theatrical sensibility converged to create immersive performance environments unlike anything his contemporaries were producing. Over four decades, he has designed sets for Broadway's most ambitious productions, collaborated with leading opera companies and ballet institutions, and expanded his practice into permanent architectural installations that carry the DNA of theatrical storytelling. Today, Rockwell is recognized as a master of his craft—a designer whose work elevates production design from backdrop to co-author of the performance itself.
