Bass
Ferruccio Furlanetto is an Italian bass of commanding presence and interpretive depth, whose four-decade career has established him as one of the preeminent interpreters of the great bass roles in the Verdi and Russian repertoires.
Defining moments and milestones
Ferruccio Furlanetto emerged as a late-blooming vocalist who, after abandoning classical studies at twenty-two, developed under the legendary pedagogue Ettore Campogalliani into one of the era's most authoritative bass interpreters. His international breakthrough came in 1986 with his portrayal of King Philip II in *Don Carlo* at Salzburg under Karajan, establishing him as the preeminent voice for the great Verdi and Russian bass roles. Over four decades, he has commanded the stages of the world's leading opera houses, becoming the first Italian bass to sing Boris Godunov at the Mariinsky Theatre and earning the honorific title of Kammersänger.
