Gil Roman rose through the ranks of Maurice Béjart's companies as a principal dancer of rare interpretive gifts, becoming the Belgian choreographer's most trusted artistic collaborator over decades of creative partnership. His performances—marked by technical mastery and emotional transparency—made him an ideal vessel for Béjart's philosophically complex and sensually charged choreography. Upon Béjart's retirement, Roman assumed the artistic directorship of Béjart Ballet Lausanne in 2007, a position he has held with distinction while stewarding the company's legacy and commissioning new works that extend its modernist vision.
Appointed Artistic Director of Béjart Ballet Lausanne, succeeding Maurice Béjart (2007)
