Witkin began his professional life as an operatic singer in London's most prestigious opera companies during the 1960s, studying at the Guildhall School and London Opera Centre before establishing himself with Sadler's Wells Opera and Benjamin Britten's English Opera Group. Over the following decades, his career broadened considerably, encompassing West End theatre, television, and film, though he became increasingly recognized for his distinctive voice work in video games and animated productions. From the 1980s onward, Witkin became a fixture in character voice acting, lending his voice to iconic roles in the Star Wars: Jedi Knight franchise and numerous other interactive and animated media, while continuing to appear in live-action television and film until his death in 2016.
