Soprano (dramatic coloratura)
An American dramatic coloratura soprano of exceptional range and stamina, Kathryn Lewek has become the defining interpreter of Mozart's Queen of the Night in the 21st century, holding the Metropolitan Opera record for most performances of a single role.
Defining moments and milestones
Trained rigorously at Eastman and mentored by the legendary Marilyn Horne at Music Academy of the West, Kathryn Lewek burst onto the international opera stage with her 2013 Operalia triumph and Carnegie Hall debut. She has since become the defining Queen of the Night of her generation, accumulating over 300 performances of Mozart's most technically formidable role across the world's premier opera houses, including a record-breaking 73 performances at the Metropolitan Opera. Beyond her signature role, she has proven herself a dramatic coloratura of considerable interpretive range, creating roles in contemporary works and commanding the stage in the four heroines of Hoffmann.
