Conductor
Kirill Petrenko is a Russian-Austrian conductor of commanding interpretive authority, currently serving as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Berlin Philharmonic—one of the world's most prestigious orchestral appointments.
Defining moments and milestones
Petrenko began his professional conducting career in 1995 with Benjamin Britten's *Let's Make an Opera* in Vorarlberg, progressing through increasingly prominent opera house positions before his appointment as Generalmusikdirektor of Meiningen Court Theatre (1999–2002). His subsequent leadership roles at Komische Oper Berlin (2002–2007) and the Bavarian State Opera (2013–2020) established him as a major operatic force, with particular distinction in Wagner and the German repertoire. His election as Chief Conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic in 2015—beginning tenure in 2019—represents the pinnacle of his symphonic career and places him among the most influential conductors of his generation.
