Choreographer
Kyle Abraham is an American choreographer and artistic director whose visceral fusion of hip-hop, street jazz, and contemporary movement has redefined the vocabulary of 21st-century dance.
Defining moments and milestones
Kyle Abraham began his professional dance career as a performer before transitioning to choreography, where his fusion of hip-hop, street jazz, and contemporary modern dance immediately distinguished him from his peers. Founding A.I.M by Kyle Abraham in 2006, he established an independent platform for his increasingly ambitious work, while simultaneously gaining commissions from the world's premier ballet institutions—New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and the Royal Ballet—each of which embraced his radical expansion of their classical vocabularies. Today, Abraham stands as one of the most consequential choreographers of his era, a figure whose work has fundamentally altered how concert dance audiences understand the relationship between technical mastery and emotional authenticity.
