Mezzo-soprano / Contralto
Signature Roles
Trained rigorously in the German conservatory tradition, Lena Sutor-Wernich began her professional life as an ensemble member at Stuttgart's opera chorus before establishing herself as a soloist of considerable range and interpretive depth. Her voice—a mezzo-soprano and contralto of bronze warmth and technical security—has made her a natural interpreter of bel canto and baroque repertoire, while her intellectual curiosity has led her toward contemporary creation, most notably her co-composition of the Etty Hillesum-inspired "Das denkende Herz." Now in her second decade of professional work, she represents a new generation of German singers equally at home in the opera house, the concert hall, and the experimental stage.
Co-conceived and co-composed the musical theatre project "Das denkende Herz" (The Thinking Heart), based on the diaries of Etty Hillesum, which premiered in Berlin, Zürich, and Luxembourg (2019)
Freiburg University of Music (Musikhochschule Freiburg) — Opera and Concert Singing, Vocal Pedagogy (2007–2011); Eurythmeum Stuttgart (2011–2012); Freies Jugendseminar Stuttgart (Studium Generale)
