Beginning as a virtuoso bassoonist in Europe's most distinguished early music ensembles, Marc Minkowski founded Les Musiciens du Louvre at nineteen and gradually transitioned to conducting, establishing himself through the 1990s as the definitive interpreter of French Baroque opera via landmark recordings and major opera house productions. His discography—particularly his Rameau and Handel cycles—earned him the Diapason d'Or and international recognition as a conductor of rare dramatic insight and historical authenticity. Now in his sixth decade, Minkowski remains an established figure on the European opera circuit, conducting across major houses while maintaining his ensemble and serving in leadership roles at prestigious institutions.
