Soprano (lyric)
Italian soprano Maria Agresta has established herself as a luminous interpreter of Puccini and Verdi heroines, commanding the world's leading opera stages with a voice of exceptional warmth and dramatic intelligence.
Defining moments and milestones
Beginning her vocal journey as a mezzo-soprano with her 2006 debut as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale in Spoleto, Maria Agresta underwent a transformative transition to soprano under the guidance of Raina Kabaivanska, establishing herself in the lyric soprano repertoire by 2007. Her breakthrough arrived in 2011 with an acclaimed performance as Elena in I vespri siciliani at the Teatro Regio di Torino, which opened the doors to the world's leading opera houses—the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the Royal Opera House, and Vienna State Opera among them. Now an established mid-career artist, she has become renowned for her luminous interpretations of Puccini and Verdi heroines, particularly Mimì and Desdemona, earning the prestigious Franco Abbiati Prize in 2014 and recognition as Cavaliere dell'ordine al merito della Repubblica in 2019.
