Beginning as a professional dancer in Paris and with the Canadian Opera Company, Marshall Pynkoski underwent a transformative apprenticeship in baroque performance practice that led him to co-found Opera Atelier in 1985, establishing himself as a visionary director whose historically informed stagings of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century opera have become the international standard. His work at the world's greatest opera houses—from Salzburg to La Scala—and his tireless pedagogy have positioned him as the preeminent authority on period-informed performance, earning him the Order of Canada and recognition from the French government.
