Principal Dancer
A principal dancer of the Royal Ballet whose dramatic intensity and technical command have made him one of the company's most compelling interpreters of classical and contemporary repertoire.
Defining moments and milestones
Beginning ballet at age six, Matthew Ball entered The Royal Ballet Lower School at eleven and progressed through the Upper School before graduating in 2013 to join the company as a corps de ballet member. His rapid ascent—marked by a breakthrough performance as Albrecht in Giselle in 2018 and promotion to Principal Dancer that same year—established him as one of the company's most dramatically compelling dancers, equally at home in the classical canon and in cutting-edge contemporary work.
Promoted to Principal Dancer with The Royal Ballet in July 2018; named Best Emerging Artist at the Critics' Circle National Dance Awards in 2016
