Sklar began his professional life as a keyboardist for the Broadway production of Les Misérables at eighteen, eventually advancing to conductor by age twenty-one, an experience that grounded him in theatrical orchestration and ensemble dynamics. His compositional breakthrough came with The Wedding Singer (2006), co-created with lyricist Chad Beguelin, establishing a partnership that would define his career and yield multiple Broadway successes. Over the subsequent two decades, he has become one of Broadway's most commercially successful composers, crafting scores that balance accessibility with genuine theatrical ambition, from the yuletide spectacle of Elf the Musical to the socially conscious contemporary musical The Prom, while simultaneously composing for television, film, and concert venues.
