Principal Dancer
A French ballet virtuoso who ascended to the rank of Étoile at the Paris Opera Ballet at just 23, Paul Marque has established himself as one of Europe's most compelling classical dancers through his command of both the Nureyev and Balanchine repertoires.
Defining moments and milestones
From his discovery of classical ballet at age seven in Biarritz, Paul Marque rose through the Paris Opera Ballet School to join the Corps de Ballet in 2014, where his technical brilliance and interpretive maturity quickly distinguished him among his peers. His Gold Medal at Varna in 2016 and the AROP Dance Prize in 2017 signaled his readiness for principal roles, culminating in his promotion to Danseur Étoile in December 2020—a landmark achievement at 23 that positioned him among the company's most promising classical dancers. Since his elevation, Marque has commanded the full classical repertoire, from the demanding roles in Nureyev's stagings to the architectural precision of Balanchine, establishing himself as one of the most versatile and accomplished dancers of his generation.
Named Danseur Étoile (Star Dancer) of the Paris Opera Ballet on December 13, 2020, at age 23, following a performance of Rudolf Nureyev's *La Bayadère* at the Opéra Bastille
