Pearl Khwezi rose from the KwaZulu-Natal Youth Choir, where she won best female soloist at the Florence International Choir Festival in 2013, to become the first South African principal Nala on Broadway. After her international debut with *The Lion King* in Madrid in 2016, she joined the Broadway production in 2018 as an ensemble member and understudy, methodically ascending to assume the principal role on May 24, 2022. Her career embodies the contemporary global musical theatre landscape, where exceptional talent from the African continent has become central to Broadway's most iconic productions.
