Ralph Holmes trained at the Royal Academy of Music under David Martin, emerging in the 1960s as a violinist of refined musicianship and technical command. He built a distinguished career as both soloist and chamber musician, recording extensively and earning particular acclaim for his interpretations of Romantic and early modern works. His premature death in 1984 cut short a career of considerable promise and established reputation.
