Ramón Vargas rose from Mexico City's musical conservatories to European prominence, winning the Enrico Caruso Tenor Competition in 1986 and establishing himself as a lyric tenor of exceptional refinement through performances at La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Wiener Staatsoper. His career has been defined by a mastery of bel canto and Verdi, roles in which his crystalline voice and interpretive intelligence have made him a fixture of the world's greatest opera houses for over four decades. Now in his seventh decade, he remains an active and celebrated artist, honored with the title of Kammersänger and recognized internationally as one of the finest lyric tenors of his era.
