The Magic Flute as Sarastro · Staatsoper Unter den Linden · Dec 15, 2026
Emerging from the prestigious Dresdner Kreuzchor and the Dresden Conservatory, René Pape made his professional debut at the Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden in 1988, establishing himself as a singer of uncommon vocal beauty and interpretive intelligence. Under the mentorship of Sir Georg Solti, he ascended to international prominence throughout the 1990s and 2000s, becoming the preeminent bass of his generation in the German operatic repertoire, particularly in Wagner. Today, Pape commands the world's greatest opera stages, celebrated for a voice of luxurious, dark-brown timbre combined with dramatic acuity and the rare ability to illuminate both the monumental and the intimate.
