Robert Wierzel began his career as a teenager lighting community theatre productions in New Port Richey, Florida, before earning his MFA from Yale under the tutelage of legendary lighting designer Jennifer Tipton. His breakthrough came through a transformative three-decade partnership with Bill T. Jones and the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, which established him as a master of contemporary dance lighting while simultaneously building an equally distinguished practice in opera and musical theatre. Today, Wierzel stands as one of America's most versatile and honored lighting designers, with a body of work spanning from Broadway musicals to European opera houses, distinguished by his ability to illuminate the emotional and kinetic core of radically different artistic visions.
