Bareilles rose to prominence as a pop-rock singer-songwriter in the mid-2000s, achieving mainstream success with her introspective albums and the ubiquitous single "Love Song." Her artistic sensibility, rooted in character-driven storytelling and emotional authenticity, naturally evolved toward musical theatre, culminating in her composition of and starring role in the original Broadway production of Waitress (2018), which earned her a Tony nomination and established her as a significant voice in contemporary musical theatre.
