Seán Curran emerged as a performer with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company in 1985, earning a Bessie Award for his solo work in Secret Pastures while establishing himself as a dancer of uncommon physicality and wit. Following his original membership in the New York cast of STOMP!, he transitioned into choreography and direction, founding the Seán Curran Company and creating works that bridge contemporary dance, opera, and theatre—from philosophically ambitious pieces like Fireweather and Left Exit to operatic productions at the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, and other major houses. Over four decades, he has become a distinctive voice in American dance, known for his ability to synthesize vernacular movement, classical vocabulary, and theatrical storytelling.
