Signature Roles
Trained from childhood in the classical Indian dance form Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music—performing her Arangetram at age nine and earning international competition prizes—Shoba Narayan pivoted toward Western musical theatre while maintaining her classical Indian practice. Her 2016 Broadway debut in *Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812* established her as a rare bridge between South Asian classical traditions and contemporary American stage performance. She continues to work across musical theatre, concert music, and interdisciplinary projects that honor both her heritage and her theatrical training.
Broadway debut as understudy and swing in *Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812* (2016), becoming the first South Asian woman to hold a principal role on Broadway since *Bombay Dreams* (2004)
