British
Signature Roles
Beginning his professional life as a pianist and emerging conductor in the late 2010s, Simon Crawford-Phillips has evolved into one of Scandinavia's most intellectually adventurous musical leaders, equally committed to canonical works and the discovery of new voices. His 2023 operatic debut conducting Britten at Stockholm Royal Opera marked a watershed moment, but his true artistic signature lies in his restless programming sensibility—whether leading orchestral premieres of Nordic composers, teaching at multiple academies, or directing from the keyboard as soloist-conductor. Now in his established phase, he represents a generation of British musicians who have chosen to build their careers outside London, bringing cosmopolitan standards and curatorial vision to regional and national institutions.
Conducting debut with Stockholm Royal Opera in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, hailed as Norman Lebrecht's Opera of the Week (2023)
Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music (elected 2010); Professor, Stockholm Royal Academy of Music; Professor, Academy of Music and Opera, Mälardalen University; Faculty, Gothenburg Academy of Music and Drama
