Tenor (lyric-spinto)
Beginning as a promising conductor and composer, Tom Randle pivoted to singing through a transformative scholarship, making his operatic debut as Tamino with English National Opera in 1988. Over the following decades, he established himself as a tenor of considerable range and intelligence, equally at home in Mozart's lyric writing and the complex dramatic demands of contemporary opera, creating roles in world premieres by Birtwistle, Buller, Turnage, and Wuorinen while maintaining a robust presence across Europe's major opera houses. His career has been defined by an unusual commitment to both the classical repertoire and the living operatic tradition, positioning him as an artist of intellectual rigor and vocal refinement.
Created the role of Judas in the world premiere of Harrison Birtwistle's *The Last Supper* at the Staatsoper Berlin and Glyndebourne, receiving outstanding critical acclaim (1992)
