Beginning as a sculptor of monsters and practical effects for major French cinema in the 1990s, Valérie Lesort gradually migrated toward theatrical creation, where her mastery of the three-dimensional form found its fullest expression. Her partnership with director Christian Hecq crystallized her vision as a co-creator of visually transformative adaptations, most prominently *Vingt mille lieues sous les mers* at the Comédie-Française, which established her as one of France's most inventive theatrical designers and directors. Over two decades, she has evolved into a singular voice in contemporary French theatre—equally accomplished as a plasticienne, actor, writer, and metteur en scène—whose work consistently honors the sculptural and tactile possibilities of live performance.
