A vital musical institution in the mid-Atlantic region, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has served Maryland's cultural life since its founding in 1916. The BSO performs at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, a 2,443-seat venue that has been its home since 1982. Under music directors including Sergiu Comissiona and Marin Alsop — one of the first women to lead a major American orchestra — the BSO has championed new music and community engagement. The orchestra also maintains a robust summer season at its second home, the Music Center at Strathmore.
