One of the most acclaimed regional theatres in the United States, Berkeley Repertory Theatre has been producing adventurous, intellectually rigorous work since 1968. Winner of the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre in 1997, Berkeley Rep operates two stages and a dedicated new-works program, The Ground Floor, that has incubated productions ranging from avant-garde experiments to Broadway-bound musicals. The company's artistic identity — fearless, cerebral, and deeply connected to the progressive spirit of the San Francisco Bay Area — has made it a national leader in American theatre.
Acoustics, seating, and what to expect
The Roda Theatre features excellent acoustics with intimate sightlines, while both stages benefit from their compact design with no seat more than 49 feet from the stage, ensuring strong sound projection throughout.
Both theatres offer excellent sightlines throughout due to their intimate design. In the Roda Theatre, the two-level layout with clear orchestra-to-mezzanine views is optimal. Seats left and right of stage are noted as good options, while B sections (typically farthest left or right) offer lower-priced alternatives.

The Conservatory's public performance calendar is excellent and tickets are inexpensive. The building's practice room availability for non-students varies — inquire about community practice room rentals. The location is ideal: steps from Davies Hall and the Opera House.
The Fort Mason Center's affordable rents have made it the home for smaller arts organizations that cannot afford Mission or SoMa commercial rates. The views of the Bay and Golden Gate Bridge from the piers are among the best in the city. Free parking in the Fort Mason lot.
UC Berkeley students and faculty have access to practice room facilities. For non-university performers, the Cal Performances presenting calendar represents the Bay Area's access to international touring artists — the programming rivals any major presenting organization in the country.
