New England's premier ballet company, Boston Ballet has cultivated a reputation for artistic excellence and bold programming since its founding in 1963. Performing at the historic Boston Opera House, the company presents a wide-ranging repertoire from classical full-length ballets to cutting-edge contemporary works by choreographers like William Forsythe and Jorma Elo. Its annual Nutcracker is a beloved holiday tradition that has introduced generations of Bostonians to the art form. The affiliated Boston Ballet School is one of the largest and most respected ballet training programs in North America.

Acoustics, seating, and what to expect
The Citizens Bank Opera House is renowned for excellent acoustics, with critics consistently praising its superior sound quality. A major $54 million restoration (2002-2004) specifically enhanced acoustics and the venue's multifaceted performance capabilities.
The venue features a wide, shallow auditorium design with excellent sightlines from nearly every seat. Sections A, B, and C are highlighted for student pricing, suggesting these are premium viewing areas, though the design minimizes truly poor seats.

Arrive before 5 PM to minimize the wait (which can reach 90 minutes on weekends). The hot lobster roll (drawn butter, toasted roll — NOT cold with mayo) is the New England version and is the right choice. The raw bar menu is seasonal and serious.
No cover — ever. The music starts around 9 PM and runs until close. Berklee students, NEC jazz faculty, and working professionals share the same small stage. Arrive early for a seat.
