One of America's oldest and most revered orchestras, the Boston Symphony Orchestra has set the standard for symphonic excellence since its founding in 1881. Its home, Symphony Hall, designed by McKim, Mead & White and opened in 1900, is celebrated worldwide for its near-perfect acoustics. The BSO's summer residency at Tanglewood in the Berkshires is among the most beloved music festivals in America. Under music directors from Koussevitzky to Munch to Ozawa, the orchestra has championed new music while maintaining a lustrous, distinctly warm sound.
