Cape Town Opera is Africa's premier opera company, founded in 1999 and dedicated to producing world-class opera that reflects the diversity and talent of South Africa. Performing at the Artscape Theatre Centre, the company has earned international recognition for its productions — particularly its landmark staging of Porgy and Bess — and its commitment to transformation and development in the South African performing arts. Cape Town Opera tours extensively in Europe and beyond.
Acoustics, seating, and what to expect
The Artscape Theatre Centre is celebrated for its excellent acoustics, delivering clear, well-balanced sound that is neither overwhelming nor distant, even during robust musical performances.
Middle stall seats from approximately row E to J offer optimal acoustics and sightlines. Balcony seats in the 2nd or 3rd row (center) are also highly regarded. Avoid the first six rows for a better overall view of the stage and more balanced sound perspective.
