North Carolina's premier professional ballet company, Carolina Ballet was founded in 1997 in Raleigh and quickly established itself as a dynamic force in Southern dance. Performing at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts and the A.J. Fletcher Opera Theater, the company presents a repertoire ranging from classical favorites to original full-length works. Founding artistic director Robert Weiss, formerly of New York City Ballet, built the company's identity around Balanchine-influenced neoclassicism and original storytelling. Carolina Ballet serves as a cultural anchor for the Research Triangle region.
