The second-oldest opera company in the United States, Cincinnati Opera has presented lyric theatre since 1920, making it a cornerstone of the city's rich musical heritage. Originally performing under the stars in the Cincinnati Zoo, the company now stages its summer festival season at Music Hall, a stunning National Historic Landmark. Cincinnati Opera balances beloved warhorses with adventurous programming, including contemporary American works and world premieres. Its intimate summer festival format offers a distinctive alternative to year-round companies, attracting devoted audiences from across the Midwest.
Acoustics, seating, and what to expect
Cincinnati Music Hall is renowned for its exceptional acoustics, with Leonard Bernstein calling it 'one of the finest acoustical spaces in the world.' The 2017 $143 million renovation included meticulous acoustical enhancements to the shoebox-shaped auditorium, improving sound distribution across all seating levels.
Mid-to-front rows in the center orchestra provide the ideal balance of sound and sightlines. Front mezzanine or balcony seats offer excellent panoramic perspectives, while premium box seats provide additional space and comfort.
