Het Nationale Ballet is one of the world's largest and most versatile ballet companies, performing at Amsterdam's Dutch National Opera & Ballet, a striking modernist waterside theater on the Amstel. Founded in 1961 through the merger of two Dutch companies, it maintains an exceptionally broad repertoire ranging from nineteenth-century classics to works by Hans van Manen and other contemporary choreographers. The company's technical excellence and stylistic range have made it a jewel of the European dance world.
Acoustics, seating, and what to expect
The Stopera was designed as a music theater with positive acoustic feedback for live orchestral accompaniment. The 1600-seat main hall is engineered for sound projection, though specific ballet-focused acoustic reviews are limited.
Stalls (Parterre) in rows slightly back from the front provide an immersive experience with full stage visibility and appreciation of corps de ballet formations. First ring (Eerste Balkon) offers excellent elevated views. Center seats in upper tiers provide comprehensive choreography overview. Avoid far sides of upper balconies due to potential sightline obstruction.
