Hancher Auditorium

Hancher Auditorium stands as a beacon of cultural vitality on the University of Iowa campus, a striking modernist venue that rose from tragedy to become one of America's finest performing arts facilities. Designed by renowned architect Cesar Pelli and completed in 2016, the building replaced its predecessor after the devastating 2008 flood, now situated seven feet above the 500-year flood level. The intimate 1,800-seat auditorium features exceptional acoustics, a warm interior palette of cherry wood and muted greens, and an organic architectural form that creates an immediate sense of connection between artist and audience.
