Founded in 1947 by visionary director Walter Felsenstein, the Komische Oper Berlin revolutionized opera through its seamless integration of drama, music, and staging, establishing itself as one of Europe's most innovative lyric theaters. The company celebrates glamour, humor, and musical excellence across a diverse repertoire of operas, operettas, musicals, and concerts, cultivating an accessible approach that reaches beyond traditional opera audiences. Currently undergoing extensive renovation of its historic Behrenstraße home, the company performs at the Schillertheater and other Berlin venues.

The UdK's public concert series (student and faculty recitals, studio productions) are listed on the university website and are often free or low-cost. Practice room access for affiliated performers can be arranged through the university's facilities office — visiting artists with institutional affiliations should inquire. The Hardenbergstraße campus is a 5-minute walk from the Charlottenburg theater cluster.
The Hanns Eisler is physically the closest conservatory to the Staatsoper and Komische Oper — many performers working in these houses have connections to the school. Public recitals and studio concerts are listed on the school website. The location in Mitte makes it the most conveniently situated practice resource for performers working in the central opera houses.
