The Royal Danish Opera carries forward a tradition of operatic performance in Copenhagen stretching back centuries, now performing in the striking Copenhagen Opera House that opened on the harbor in 2005. Designed by Henning Larsen, the Opera House is one of the most modern and technically advanced stages in the world, its waterfront setting offering a dramatic architectural counterpoint to the historic city. The company presents a season that balances international repertoire staples with Scandinavian works and new commissions. The Royal Danish Opera brings a distinctly Nordic sensibility to the grand operatic tradition.
Acoustics, seating, and what to expect
Internationally acclaimed acoustics designed by Arup Acoustics, featuring a horseshoe-shaped auditorium with individually angled seats that ensure excellent sound quality and clarity from every position. The large orchestra pit accommodates up to 110 musicians with optimized acoustic projection.
For optimal acoustics and sightlines, the balcony and middle sections of the 1st and 2nd floors are recommended; for opera and ballet, middle parquet rows 7-8 and back provide excellent stage view. Avoid the first 4-5 rows, which can create unbalanced sound and obscure full stage scenography.
