Tips from the regulars
Entrance
Coat check: yesThe Staatstheater Stuttgart is located at Oberer Schloßgarten 6, adjacent to the royal palace gardens. The main entrance faces the Schloßgarten; arriving via the palace gardens provides an elegant approach. First-time visitors should allow extra time to navigate the historic building's layout.
Intermission
The theatre's foyer and bar areas can become crowded during intermission, particularly on weekends. Arrive early to secure a drink; the bar staff move efficiently. The third-tier seating offers a quieter refuge if you prefer to step away from the crowd.
Accessibility
The Staatstheater Stuttgart has wheelchair-accessible seating and facilities. Contact the box office (details available on the website) in advance to arrange accessible seating and any required assistance. The building's historic architecture means some areas may have limited accessibility; staff can advise on the best entry and seating options.
Transit, parking & directions
Public Transit
The nearest S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations are Hauptbahnhof (main railway station, 10–15 minutes' walk) and Schlossplatz (U-Bahn, 5 minutes' walk). Schlossplatz is the most convenient; exit toward the palace gardens and follow signs to the Staatstheater. Ride-share drop-off is available on Königstraße or Schloßstraße.
Parking
Street parking in central Stuttgart is limited and metered. The Schloßgarten-Garage (Königstraße) is the nearest major car park, approximately 5–10 minutes' walk from the theatre. Expect to pay €2–3 per hour. Public transport is strongly recommended.
