Tips from the regulars
Entrance
Coat check: yesThe main entrance faces Via Filodrammatici on the north side of the building. First-time visitors should approach from the Duomo (a 5-minute walk south) or from Cordusio metro station (10 minutes northwest). The neoclassical façade is unmistakable; arrive 30 minutes early to absorb the architectural grandeur and navigate the entrance procedures.
Intermission
The foyer and bar areas can become crowded during intermissions, particularly on opening nights and weekends. The house's 2,030-seat capacity means roughly 1,000 people may seek refreshment simultaneously. Arrive at your seat 10 minutes before curtain to avoid the crush. The bar stocks Italian wines and spirits; champagne is available but pricey. If you prefer to avoid crowds, remain in your seat—the house will dim lights as a courtesy before the next act begins.
Transit, parking & directions
Public Transit
Duomo metro station (M1 and M3 lines) is the primary access point, approximately 300 meters south of the theater; exit toward the cathedral and walk north. Cordusio station (M1 line) is 400 meters northwest. Tram lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 12, 14, 19, 24, and 27 serve the area; the nearest stops are on Via Torino or Piazza del Duomo. Ride-share drop-off is possible on Via Filodrammatici or adjacent streets, though traffic congestion is common during evening performances.
Parking
Street parking in central Milan is scarce and metered. The Duomo underground parking garage (Parcheggio Duomo) is the nearest option, approximately 200 meters south, with typical rates around €3–4 per hour. A 5-minute walk from the garage to the theater. Public transit is strongly recommended; driving in Milan's centro storico is not for the faint of heart.
